Convergence in world culture and its impact on multicultural workforce

Knowledge and characteristics which surround with languages, religion, methods of cooking, social behavior, arts and music among people and their particular groups comprise a culture. There is always a chance where sharing of such things take place with each other within different group of people. That is the more people interact with each other, it becomes possible that they exchange more similarities among each other and this makes cultural convergence (Zimmermann, 2017).
It does not matter what kind of culture an individual belongs, to but it is very much obvious that this will surely change. In this interconnected world, culture is being considered as a key which comprises many ethnically vast societies that sometime gets penetrated with conflicts related to religion and ethical believes that forms a culture.

According to Sarala and Vaara (2010), the convergence of the world culture helps in merging values among different countries where different countries appear to become alike. It is further explained that if culture converges in an organization or work place, it is more likely that the culture differences get reduced resulting in more and more transfer of knowledge. Cultural convergence makes ease in communication among the members of an organization by minimizing mental maps and expectations. In addition to that the minimization of the cultural differences can also be helpful in building of trust among the organizations that were previously separated.
It has been observed that culture is one of the most significant factors that handle behaviour among employees as well as their innovations. As per the survey conducted by Kaplan et al. (2016), about 82 of the survey proved that culture is a prospective benefit. Knowing that an organizational performance directly gets influenced by leadership and reward system, every organization uses data as well as information regarding behaviour of employees for maintaining and influencing culture among employees.

Things that might need consideration as a manager of multicultural workforce are

  1. Reducing racism in employees explaining about culture that consist something even more than color, sex, race, religion and nationality.
  2. Avoiding stereotypes knowing about the team members and their preferences for work by being open-minded.
  3. Controlling the dynamics of team It is very necessary to keep an eye on employees so that they dont turn problematic for the organization, as several communication challenges can come in a multicultural team.
  4. Identifying the talents and different qualities in every individual employee so that it can utilized for a multicultural workforce.
