Transfer of Life Skills in Sport-Based Youth Development Programs

A practice framework is a set of principles that generates a professional approach for youth work. The key purpose of youth work promotes social and personal development and such career paths helps in building character and resilience and this gives the youth life skills and confidence to live, achieve, and work. Some various principles and values strengthen a youth work practice framework. This assessment will discuss the attribute, strengths, and values that are major aspects of an effective youth work practice framework.

According to Jacobs & Wright (2018), there are six key principles for effective youth work framework that are followed in order to achieve effective outcomes. First, positivity – the services or framework should be focused and strength-based for developing the skills among youth people. Second, empowerment – the framework empowers youth to engage and progress in employment, training, and education. Third, well-being, safety, and quality – this included professional youth workers that help in supporting an effective youth framework to support their physical, emotional, and mental health. Emotional safety plays a major role in effective learning resulting in creativity and collaboration between the young people and the society (Moncloa et al., 2019). Forth, respect – the youth should get equal chances to participate in community activities for overall development without negative stereotyping or judgment. Fifth, diversity, equality, and inclusivity – these factors prevent the youth from feeling isolated or marginalized based on religion, health status, education, and others. Sixth, youth-led – the framework should develop services for the youth for building trust and autonomy for improved and better development. These six principles act as strengths for the practice framework in youth. All these are effectively followed by the youth workers to ensure the complete and overall development of the youth. The significance of the close relationship between practice and values is that the youth workers are actively contributing and getting involved in continuous development and professional reflection to ensure that perspectives and personal experiences are appropriately used and if there is any limitation then it is addressed and resolved (Slovenko & Thompson, 2016). A youth worker experiences different sides of this career path while working with different sections of the society like while working with refugees who are homeless and does not get education, they work in collaboration with the government and private institutions to provide best of services to these people.

The values establish an ethical understructure that informs professional practices and principles. The youth practice framework included values – promoting the youth voice, valuing and respecting differences, helping the youth in developing improved relationships, and treating the youth with respect (Smithson et al., 2020). Other values are using the youth’s perspective and enabling youth involvement in society. The youth work principles included – proving a safe environment to youth, understanding the conflict and challenging behavior of young people, ensuring self-contribution of young people, and the knowledge and support to the developing youth in their adolescent stages (Moncloa et al., 2019). The youth practice framework values are - notifying the achievement and the changes as well, focusing on capabilities and strengths, being non-judgemental, and engaging with differences and diversity. All these values are that of a youth practice framework. The youth practice framework will have effective outcomes only if it has the following factors in connection – health and well-being, political participation, education, civic participation, and opportunity, and employment. The youth practice framework has some ethical and principle values of accountability, confidentiality, voluntary participation, and anti-oppressive. The youth development framework has the following features like safe space, positive norms, positive perceptions, youth contribution, and skill-building. Some other features are integration among services and healthy bonding and relationships. Making information or services available to the youth or their families ensures continued care and support (Smithson et al., 2020). The youth development framework has the following major domains – Assets – that include self-control, high order thinking skills, and interpersonal skills. Agency – self-efficacy, diligence, and goal-setting and enabling environment – this includes support, recognition and values, psychological safety, and physical safety. All these factors result in many positive outcomes like support to the cultural community, positive health outcomes, reducing crime and drug abuse, access to benefits and opportunities, economic empowerment of marginalized young population.

Some various principles and values strengthen a youth practice framework. Emotional safety plays a major role in effective learning resulting in creativity and collaboration between the young people and the society. A complete and effective youth framework that ensures all the principles and values being followed results in improved and better youth practice framework with positive outcomes as well.
